CPMHA Communiqué to Members re: Return to Hockey plan

CPMHA Families:

First and foremost, we truly hope that everyone is well and staying safe in these unprecedented times.

With the abrupt cancellation of our hockey season this past March and as we’ve watched and listened to the status of events due to this world-wide pandemic, we have all been wondering when, how and even if hockey will return this fall.

Over the past few months, our CPMHA Executive has been working closely with our governing bodies (Hockey Canada, HEO and District 4) as well as our local arenas, and other local hockey associations within District 4, to determine a way forward in bringing hockey back to CP with the health and safety of all members our top priority.

Due to the ongoing restrictions related to COVID-19, traditional hockey, including sort-outs, team formation, and league play is not possible at this time.  As a result, CPMHA will focus primarily on skills development until a return to normal hockey activities is permitted by the Province and Hockey Canada/HEO.

A fee structure is being developed as part of our Return to Hockey plan, focusing on a cost recovery basis for the first phase of the season. We expect conditioning ice to be scheduled following Labour Day.

If you have not already done so, but do intend to return to hockey this fall, we ask that you consider completing the “Hold Your Spot” registration via our website. Once the fee structure is confirmed, we will adjust the registration to include full payment ability. We expect to close registration mid-September for us to determine the groups based on the requirement that players/coaches/volunteers be placed into “bubbles” that do not exceed 50 persons. The “Hold Your Spot” registration will provide us with an idea of numbers for players to sort into the ‘bubbles’ at each level.

We appreciate your patience, flexibility and understanding as we all find our way through these requirements and guidelines with the end goal to get our players back on the ice in as safe a manner as possible. We hope to be able to share our full plan with all members shortly. Continue to watch our website and our Facebook page for updates.

Yours in Hockey,
CPMHA Executive
